Perla Kopeloff

I am a fiber artist born and educated in
Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Currently working in southern Colorado, my collage and mixed-media work is about textiles and clothing. 

My new series "Camisas" (shirts in Spanish) brings together fragments of cultures and attempts to integrate them into an everyday ceremonial garment, vestments covering our naked selves.

These are layers of warm-colored handmade papers, hand felted silk and wool embedded with found objects in encaustic media reflecting the day to day complexity found in women's and men's life. 

I use Japanese felting techniques, Nuno felting and Woomchi, both non woven which allows me to integrate both animal and bast fibers together.

In these pieces, I create an effect where layers upon layers of "skins" produce a rich and textural effect.

All is a metaphor for the layers of experience we acquire daily.
